To whom it may concern:
Tyler was seen by an ophthalmologist today concerning his vision problems. We still do not know why Tyler is having such difficulty with his vision or what the exact problem is; what we do know is that his lenses are correct for him. However, Tyler still isn’t seeing well and his vision should be corrected with his current prescription glasses. Unfortunately, he still is straining with the use of his glasses.
We found out today that something else is affecting Tyler’s ability to focus well and accurately. Through the test today, the ophthalmologist has found an area of concern in the back of Tyler’s eyes which needs further evaluation. Additionally, we have found that his color vision, particularly contrast, is affected and not normal. This may explain why he has trouble with the over head projector, as we learned today that images appear smeared to him unless the color contrast is dramatic. Tyler will need to have an Electro-Retinography test done. The closest facility that this test is available at is in Richmond at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. He may be missing another day of school when the appointment is set for this and other tests.
As you may already know Tyler does not only struggle with the problem physically, but emotionally and socially. He is extremely sensitive about his vision problems. We hope to have diagnoses and treatment for him soon. In the meantime, any efforts you can make to help him would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to discuss this in greater detail.
Sincerely,
Mr. and Mrs.
